The Iranian short film 'Manicure' directed by Arman Fayyaz has been awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 2018 Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival (Curta Cinema).
In a statement, the judges, comprised of professionals from the cinema and culture sector, declared: "at a time when our body and freedom are threatened, it is noteworthy that cinema reflects love and individuals needs; therefore, the Special Jury Prize goes to ‘Manicure’ for respecting and looking into this matter.”
'Manicure' is the story of a young man having trouble coping with the sudden death of his wife, while facing pressure from the local villagers.
This 14-minute short film was produced in 2017 and has participated in film festivals across the world including the 24th edition of Encounters Film Festival in the UK and the Big Bang International Short Film Festival in Athens.
The 2018 Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil specializes in the advancement and presentation of short films no more than 30 minutes long. The festival also aims to deepen the relationship between Brazilian and International producers.
The latest edition of the film event took place October 24-31.
